ALBERTO GANDINI, Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Alberto Gandini is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Tropical Health Systems. Prior to founding Tropical Health Sytems, Dr. Gandini was a research assistant professor of physics at the University of Houston, Texas. Dr. Gandini's research focused on material science, superconductivity, particle radiation, magnetic properties of matter and their application to medical devices. Dr. Gandini authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, he holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Milan, Italy, a Ph.D. from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas, and an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

SALMAN MUKHTAR, MBA
Salman Mukhtar is the Chief Marketing Officer and co-founder of Tropical Health Systems. His prior work experience includes The DIRECTV Group, Deloitte & Touche and Ford Motor Company. At Deloitte, Salman was a part of the Health and Human Services practice and has extensive experience in health and human services. Salman holds a Bachelor Degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

JAMES F. ANTAKI, Ph.D.
Dr. James Antaki is the Chief Technical Advisor to Tropical Health Systems. He is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and holds academic positions in the departments of Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He received a BS in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1985) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (1991). Over the past 20 years, Prof. Antaki has conducted research in the field of prosthetic cardiovascular organs, and has contributed to the development of several heart-assist devices, including the Heartmate-II, Novacor, Ventrassist, TandemHeart, and Levacor. In 1997, his team completed the development of a novel magnetically levitated turbodynamic blood pump, the Streamliner, which recorded the world’s first in-vivo implant of such a device, and was granted an IEEE Controls Systems Technology Award in 2001. Dr. Antaki holds twelve patents related to artificial organs and four in other fields.
